Submission to the Just Transition Work Programme | Process for Operationalisation of a Just Transition Mechanism
This submission was prepared by the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD), FIAN International, Franciscans International, IBON International, the International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net), and Rivers & Rights, for the United Arab Emirates Just Transition Work Programme – Process for Operationalisation of a Just Transition Mechanism (JTM). It features some of the main elements we think are crucial for the JTM to fulfil its mandate of “enabl[ing] equitable, inclusive just transitions.”
It also underscores some key issues shaping transitions in the Global South, including extractivism, unjust trade measures, corporate control over resources, and the need for finance, among many other areas. The submission further outlines governance and financing considerations, alongside a set of redlines on what the mechanism must not become.
